SELECTED EUROPEAN PROJECTS 1999-2003

At Quinta da Fonte Lisbon, a 3-storey 5,500 sq m office building on a triangular site was shielded from a busy highway by a curved wall of Estremoz Ruivina marble and glass blocks. In Barcelona 2003, a 15,000 sq m office building on a corner site: the diagonal internal street containing vertical circulation elements and bridges relates to a park and view of distant mountains. The entrance is shaded by a steel ‘tree’ evoking the Barcelona ‘umbráculo’. Thus semi-public spaces animated by natural light and shading devices give meaning to a building type which is otherwise of little urbanistic interest
